Low-Voltage Power Cables

Details

Low-voltage power cables carry energy between distribution equipment and connected loads. Enquiries can cover copper or aluminium conductors, single-core or multicore construction, and insulation and sheathing selected for the installation environment. Common specification options include 0.6/1 kV XLPE-insulated designs with PVC or low-smoke halogen-free sheaths, but the exact rating and construction must be confirmed. Armoured and unarmoured versions serve different mechanical-protection requirements. Conductor size depends on current capacity, voltage drop, fault duty and installation conditions, rather than load current alone. Provide the cable schedule, routing method, ambient conditions, circuit protection and required drum lengths for a supply quotation.

0.6/1 kV is an example specification class. Core counts, cross-sections, armour and sheath requirements are selected per cable schedule.

Item

  • Multicore copper distribution cables
  • Aluminium-conductor power cables
  • XLPE-insulated feeder cables
  • Armoured power-cable constructions
  • Unarmoured sheathed power cables

Medium-voltage power cables wound on large wooden drums.

Medium-voltage cable drums; higher-voltage constructions are project-specific.

Medium- & High-Voltage Cables

Details

Medium-voltage cable enquiries typically cover single-core or three-core constructions with conductor screens, insulation screens, metallic screens and an outer sheath. XLPE-insulated designs are available in different system voltage classes, with armouring and water-blocking features specified where needed. Higher-voltage transmission cables require a project-specific cable-system specification and coordinated accessory interfaces. Cable voltage designation, conductor material, screen fault capacity, earthing arrangement and installation environment all affect selection. Provide the system voltage, fault level and duration, route conditions, cable lengths and termination details. Existing jointing accessories must be matched to cable dimensions and construction; voltage class alone is insufficient evidence of compatibility.

MV examples include 3.8/6.6 kV and 19/33 kV designations in relevant standards. HV requirements need separate project and manufacturer confirmation.

Control & Panel Cables

Details

Control and panel cables connect control devices, actuators, machinery and electrical assemblies. Product enquiries may include numbered or colour-coded multicore cables, screened versions for electrically noisy environments, and insulated single cores for protected panel wiring. Flexible copper conductors can simplify routing, but the permitted movement and bending radius depend on the exact design. A copper braid screen addresses electromagnetic interference; it is not equivalent to mechanical armour. Specify operating voltage, core count, conductor area, identification method and the presence of a protective conductor. Oil, chemical, UV and outdoor requirements should be stated individually and checked against the selected cable data sheet.

300/500 V and other voltage classes are available in selected designs. Panel wires and sheathed control cables require different routing protection.

Item

  • Numbered-core multicore control cables
  • Colour-coded control cables
  • Copper-braid screened control cables
  • Unscreened flexible control cables
  • Insulated panel-wiring single cores
  • Protective-conductor cable variants
  • Specified oil-resistant or outdoor-rated designs

Screened Instrumentation Cables

Details

Instrumentation cables connect field instruments with monitoring and control equipment, including low-level analogue and digital circuits. Twisted-pair or triad constructions can be combined with an overall screen, individual pair screens, or both, according to the interference and crosstalk requirements. Enquiries may include drain wires, identified pairs, armoured versions and suitable sheath materials. Pair count, conductor size, capacitance, resistance and the required operating voltage should be stated alongside the instrument and control-system requirements. Cable selection for intrinsically safe circuits also depends on the complete circuit design and equipment documentation; a sheath colour or a generic instrumentation label does not establish suitability.

Screen arrangement, pair/triad count and electrical characteristics are application-specific. Hazardous-area suitability requires documented circuit-level selection.

Item

  • Single-pair instrumentation cables
  • Multipair instrumentation cables
  • Triad and multitriad cable constructions
  • Overall foil-screened cables with drain wire
  • Individually and overall screened pair cables
  • Armoured instrumentation cable variants
  • Specified low-smoke halogen-free sheaths

Thermocouple & Sensor Extension Cables

Details

Temperature-measurement circuits require cable selected for the sensor type and measuring system. Thermocouple extension and compensating cables use defined conductor combinations and polarity; ordinary copper control cable cannot be assumed to replace them. Enquiries can cover single-pair or multipair constructions, overall or individual screening, and insulation suited to the cable's own exposure temperature. The temperature limit of thermocouple conductors is not automatically the allowable temperature of the complete cable. For resistance-temperature sensors, specify the required two-, three- or four-wire arrangement and conductor resistance requirements. Provide the sensor designation, colour-code standard, route conditions and connection details to support correct product identification.

Thermocouple type, extension or compensating grade, polarity, colour code and complete cable temperature rating must be confirmed together.

Item

  • Type-matched thermocouple extension pairs
  • Specified compensating cable constructions
  • Multipair thermocouple extension cables
  • Screened temperature-measurement cables
  • PVC- or fluoropolymer-insulated variants
  • Specified RTD sensor extension cables
  • Compatible sensor connection cable assemblies

Cross-section of a large EPR-insulated industrial trailing cable.

EPR-insulated industrial trailing cable; not a specific motor-drive cable.

Flexible & Motor Cables

Details

Flexible power and motor cables serve machinery connections, movable equipment and drive systems where the cable experiences a defined level of movement. Enquiries may cover heavy-duty rubber-sheathed power cables, screened motor cables, servo constructions with control pairs and purpose-designed drag-chain or trailing cables. Occasional flexing, continuous bending, torsion and reeling are different duties and require suitable constructions. For variable-speed drives, screening, conductor layout and termination requirements should follow the drive and motor documentation. Provide the motion profile, travel distance, bending radius, electrical rating and exposure to oils, weather or abrasion. A flexible conductor alone does not demonstrate suitability for continuous-motion service.

Rubber 450/750 V and motor 0.6/1 kV designs are examples. Voltage, flex life and environmental performance depend on the selected cable.

Item

  • Heavy-duty rubber-sheathed flexible power cables
  • Screened motor connection cables
  • Servo cables with specified control pairs
  • Continuous-flex drag-chain power cables
  • Specified industrial trailing cables
  • Continuous-flex control cables
  • Specified torsion or reeling cable designs
  • Compatible pre-terminated motor cable assemblies

Mineral-insulated cable construction; no particular fire-test rating is implied.

Fire-Performance Cables

Details

Fire-performance cable selection starts by distinguishing reaction to fire from resistance to fire. Flame-retardant and low-smoke halogen-free constructions address aspects of flame spread, smoke and combustion gases; they do not automatically preserve an operating circuit during fire. Fire-resistant designs are selected for a stated circuit-integrity test, duration and exposure conditions. Product enquiries may include emergency-circuit power cables, fire-alarm cables, armoured fire-resistant constructions and mineral-insulated copper-clad cable systems. Suitability depends on the exact cable and any required supports, joints and terminations. Provide the application, governing specification and required test evidence rather than relying on broad terms such as fireproof or fire-rated.

Required test standards, duration, smoke/halogen properties and complete-system conditions must be stated. No universal fire rating is implied.

Item

  • Low-smoke halogen-free power cables
  • Specified flame-retardant control cables
  • Fire-resistant emergency-circuit cables
  • Fire-alarm circuit-integrity cables
  • Armoured fire-resistant power cables
  • Mineral-insulated copper-clad cable systems
  • Matched fire-performance termination components

Where products are used

Applications of Products

Choose cable construction for each power, control or measurement circuit and the conditions along its route.

Commercial building circuits

Low-voltage power cables connect distribution equipment to scheduled building loads. Emergency circuits require the specified fire-performance evidence and compatible system components; low-smoke construction alone does not establish circuit integrity.

Industrial power distribution

Medium- or high-voltage cables serve project-defined power routes between supply and distribution equipment. Voltage designation, screen fault capacity, earthing arrangement and termination interfaces must follow the cable-system specification.

Machine and control panels

Panel wires and multicore control cables connect switches, actuators and electrical assemblies. Core identification, voltage rating, conductor size and protection against the local environment guide the cable schedule.

Process instrumentation networks

Screened pairs or triads carry defined instrument signals between field devices and control equipment. Screening, electrical characteristics and any intrinsically safe circuit requirements are checked against the complete measurement-system design.

Thermal processing equipment

Thermocouple extension or compensating cables link temperature sensors to their measuring equipment. Sensor type, polarity, colour-code standard and the complete cable's exposure-temperature rating must be matched together.

Moving production machinery

Motor, servo and purpose-designed moving cables connect drives and equipment along defined motion paths. Continuous bending, torsion or reeling duties require the appropriate cable construction, bend radius and termination arrangement.
