A Ring Main Unit is a compact, metal-clad switchgear designed for medium-voltage (typically 7.2–36 kV) distribution networks. It houses all necessary switching and protection elements—switch-disconnectors or vacuum circuit breakers (VCB), earthing switches, and possibly fuses or relays—inside a single gas (SF₆) or air-insulated sealed unit.
